Rocking Horse Rescue

by Emma on February 17, 2011

Renovated rocking horse1 We were very happy when this little fella appeared on our doorstep – what a cutie. Found in the hands of a scrap-happy husband en route to the dump, he was rescued and re-routed to us.
Renovated rockking horse2 Nasty looking splintered seat – not bottom friendly – fill, sand and paint. Seat sporting some unsightly stains (less said about these the better) – recover with jolly polka dot vinyl, and add a little more padding while we we’re at it.
Renovating a rocking horse3 Other than this, the lad is in pretty good nick. We gave him a rub down with some fine wire wool and our magic potion, note this down it’s a winner: 1/3 white spirit, 1/3 methylated spirits, 1/3 linseed oil, pour into a jam jar and shake. This handy little mix will revive and restore just about any finish you care to rub it on. Buff to a velvety sheen.
4 And that’s about all it took. Tempting to touch up the worn paintwork on his face, but really, that’s all part of his charm. Love him to bits.
If you’re harbouring a loved but unlovely toy or heirloom – why not send it our way for a bit of TLC? Send us some pics and we’ll get back to you with some ideas. Email us at info@aliceandemma.com

What a wonderful transformation – any child would love to own this beautiful rocking horse, well done – we so live in a throw away world, nice to see re-cycling at its best. Recommend to all our friends.
